Asus Zenfone 6 Vs Galaxy S10 | Camera Comparison

VIDEO SPONSORED BY VODAFONE

Pic 1 Detail & Colour - Here is a regular photo was taken on the primary cameras in the rain...of a happy dog. The Samsung Galaxy S10 seems to be doing a great job of brightening up the picture and bumping up the saturation which you can clearly see on the grass.

asus zenfone 6 vs galaxy s10 camera 2.jpg asus zenfone 6 vs galaxy s10 camera 3 zoomed.jpg

The Zenfone 6 delivers a very natural colour... remember it was raining. There was a very little amount of sunshine. So I think it's pretty accurate.

Now let's zoom in 60% to check the detail. Both do a great job picking up fine details. The question for you is...which one is better?

Pic 2 Bokeh AKA Blurry Background- So the first image is a portrait shot of a baby tree. Immediately you'll notice the colour science of the two devices is completely different. You get much warmer tones from the S10 and slightly more neutral colours from the Zenfone 6.

asus zenfone 6 vs galaxy s10 camera 1.jpg

In terms of background blur, the Samsung S10 seems to be ahead and the warmer tones are certainly helping the tree to stand out more from the background. Whilst the Asus Zenfone 6 delivers a good picture with a decent amount of background blur also.

Pic 3 Landscape / Ultrawide - Ok time to test a landscape photo & ultrawide cameras. So here is the primary. Again the Samsung Galaxy S10 has more saturation and cooler blue tones. You can see that is the colour in the sky also the cooler free tones.

asus zenfone 6 vs galaxy s10 camera 3.jpg
asus zenfone 6 vs galaxy s10 camera 4.jpg

The Zenfone 6 has a much warmer look right across the image. The sky has an almost magenta tint to it. It's a close call...two very different creative styles.

Now the ultrawide. So both are pretty good here. One thing I noticed here is actually the Zenfone 6 is doing a better job of details especially in the highlights. The Galaxy S10 seems to be cranking up the white levels and losing some detail in the left side of the picture on the grass.

Pic 4 Selfie / Ultrawide (Zenfone 6 only)- Ok because the primary and ultrawide double up as the Selfie cameras thanks to its motorized flip camera. I thought I'd test the selfie capabilities on its own. So on the right is a picture of me with the primary and an ultrawide on the left.

Pic 5 HDR / Contrast - So now back at the house. So I took this to demonstrate HDR because there's quite a lot of brightness coming from this monitor, I think this will work.

hdr pic.jpg

The Asus is doing really fantastic here. The black levels are surprisingly much better than the Galaxy S10 in this setting. Also, the colours seem to be better also. I've gotta say when it comes to shooting indoors the Asus is fantastic.

Pic 6 - Black Levels

It's Venom...I chose this particular setting because of the black surroundings. Now, this is interesting because. The Asus Zenfone 6 seems to have really boosted up the contrast, brightness and luminance because of the amount of black shades in the photo. Whilst the Samsung S10 has done a great job of just keeping everything well balanced.

black levels.jpg

I must admit though it was particularly hard to get both the devices to focus properly in this setting.

Pic 7 Colours

Yes, it's a Nintendo switch controller with the neon joycons. I've gotta say the Zenfone 6 has impressed me once again. Really vibrant colours, great black levels...my only criticism is the fact the buttons on the right side of the controller are a little out of focus.

colours.jpg

Whereas on the Galaxy S10 photo the entire controller is perfectly in focus. The colours are much more neutral on the S10 here.

Pic 8 - So here's a Selfie on both phones taken at arm's length. As you can see the fact that the Asus Zenfone 6 can use its primary shooter to take selfies it certainly has an advantage...and a wider field of view.

self.jpg

The S10 whilst still very good it's just not quite as detailed as the Zenfone 6. Which one is better in your eyes.

ZENFONE VS GALAXY S10 | NIGHT PHOTOGRAPHY COMPARISON

Pic 1 - Ok, so I took this one because I just liked the way the street lights were shining through the metal gates on the right hand side.

night1.jpg

Although it was a low light situation, The Samsung Galaxy S10 photo is incredibly bright. This might be due to the F.1.4 aperture feature. The colours are pretty accurate and it's maintained good detail and colour in the sky.

The Asus ZenFone 6 photo is much warmer with a lot more orange tones. The Zenfone 6 photo is certainly more dramatic to look at, it almost looks like it's added a filter over the photo. Whilst it is a good picture there is a little noise in the night sky.

Pic 2 - Artificial Light

So this one is a low light shot with a lot of artificial lighting around the building. The Asus ZenFone 6 is doing a good job of controlling the lights around the lettering on the front of the building.

night2.jpg

If you compare the neon lights to the Samsung Galaxy S10 photo, the Asus is doing a better job in this area.

However when it comes to the night sky. There's a lot of lens flare and again a bit of noise above the building. It's a close one...I know which one I like and I'll be placing my vote in the poll in the top right corner.

Pic 3 Night Selfie - So it's Selfie time. Here is where there's a pretty big difference. As I mentioned earlier the primary shooter on the Asus is the Selfie shooter.

night3.jpg

So what we have here in the Zenfone 6 photo is a wider angle, better skin tones, better details in the shadows and really nice colour in the night sky.

Now that's not to say the Galaxy S10 is completely defeated here. It does deliver a bright image with good detail although I feel it's really turning up the highlights a bit too much. It's still good though given the lighting conditions.

Now onto so night video comparisons.

Pic 4 - Night Sky

So I've taken this shot in quite a few of my camera shootout videos. I actually filmed this on the longest day of the year, so it was a little bright out there even though it was very late.

night4.jpg

Now I think there is a clear winner here. I'm sure you know which one I'm talking about. I really think the results of this comes down to the software.

I know the 48mp sensor in the Asus can do better than this. You should check out my OnePlus 7 pro Vs Galaxy S10 comparison to see what I'm talking about. Anyway, let's move on.

Pic 5

So this should give you a good idea of the different approaches the Asus ZenFone 6 and the Galaxy S10 when it comes to processing lowlight images.

night6.jpg

The Zenfone seems to really like to boost up the saturation and crush the black levels, which works well sometimes. One area that I think the Zenfone 6 wins on here is the details in the highlights in the trees.

With that said the Samsung Galaxy S10 delivers a great picture with minimal noise in the sky and great detail right across the photo. It's really quite impressive.

* IN EACH IMAGE THE ONEPLUS 7 PRO IS ON THE LEFT & THE GALAXY S10 IS ON THE RIGHT

NIGHT MODE

Galaxy S10 Vs Oneplus 7 Pro Camera Comparison 1.jpg

So photo 1. A night shot with some street lighting of my favorite cinema in North London. Both of these were shot using the night mode setting on both devices. So both phones take a long exposure whilst stabilizing the shot. Both were taken handheld.

As you can see there are a few major differences between the two devices. Most notably the brightness of the OnePlus 7 pro photo. The darker blues in the sky on the Samsung Galaxy S10.

When it comes to the exposure you can see the highlights around the lettering on the front of the cinema blowing out just a bit on the S10 photo.

Also if you look at the left side of the building you'll also notice the OnePlus 7 pro is picking up significantly more detail around the neon lights. I think this is likely due to the Sony 48MP imx sensor in the OP7pro.

STREET LIGHT NIGHT SHOT

Galaxy S10 Vs Oneplus 7 Pro Camera Comparison 2.jpg

Ok, the 2nd photo shot in a very dark setting. I tried my best to get the dog to sit still she just wouldn't. My apologies. However, you get a good idea of the difference between the two.

One thing that really caught my eye about this photo is the raindrops on the grass & the better color saturation on the OP7. The Galaxy S10 does a good job also...but It's got to be the OnePlus 7 pro on this one...doesn't it?

NIGHT SKY AT 11PM - EXTREME NIGHT SHOT

Galaxy S10 Vs Oneplus 7 Pro Camera Comparison 3.jpg

Ok, so this one was taken directly into the night sky. It had to be around 11 pm when I took this. Honestly, both phones blew me away here. Standing there I honestly couldn't see any of those colors in the sky. It was just black. That's why these photos surprised me so much.

I feel that the brightness and saturation are better on the OP7pro and the detail is more on the side of the Samsung Galaxy S10. I personally prefer the OnePlus 7 pro photo. But what about you.

INCREDIBLY LOW LIGHT NIGHT SELFIE

night selfy.jpg

Ok, a night selfie. I didn't use the flash on either device. I think this photo will give you a good idea of actually how dark it was.

So the Galaxy S10 here is doing a good job of brightening my face however losing a lot of detail in the shadows on the right side of my face. There also seems to be quite a bit of noise in the sky.

The OnePlus 7 seems to have bumped up the saturation and smoothed out the image a bit also. However, I do look a bit green like I'm just about to turn in to the Hulk or something.

Now don't judge the night performance of these devices purely off of this. It was incredibly dark were I standing in this one.

DAYLIGHT BRIGHT PHOTO

Galaxy S10 Vs Oneplus 7 Pro Camera Comparison day Galaxy S10 Vs Oneplus 7 Pro Camera Comparison detail

So believe it or not it was actually really sunny in London... For one day. It's been rainy ever since. Any way the photos. So the Samsung Galaxy S10 has added a significant amount of saturation and boosted the highlights. You can see this quite clearly on the dog's nose.

The OP7 pro is delivering quite a natural picture overall. Nothing seems to overexpose...now let's zoom in 70%.

So looking a little closer at this you can see a lot of differences. The dog's fur appears to be much smoother on the OnePlus 7 as opposed the S10, there seems to be more texture on the Galaxy S10. It's hard to say which one is better here. So I'm interested to know what you think. Use the poll or leave a comment.

REAR CAMERA PORTRAIT AKA BOKEH AKA BLURRY BACKGROUND

day 3 portrait.jpg

Ok, a portrait shot of my Beats Studio 3. I made a video about this that I think you guys might like. Anyway...the photos. So before you ask the lens was not smudged on the S10. There was a very bright shaft of light shining through the trees here.

I actually really like both of the photos even with the lens flare on the S10 photo. In terms of background blur the Galaxy S10 is creating more blur but the OnePlus 7 pro is not far behind. I felt that lens flair made this one a little difficult to judge so I took another portrait photo back at the lab.

So check this out. It's John Wick baba yaga. Did you see John Wick 3 yet...what an awesome film that was?

bokeh_1.jpg
bokeh_zoom.jpg
bokeh_spin.jpg
bokeh_BW.jpg

So again more blur on the Galaxy S10 which you can clearly see. Although you might notice the sharpness around the edges of the boogyman seems to be better on the OnePlus 7... However, the S10 has a feature that allows you to add some awesome effects to the background blur...check this out.

That's awesome.

MAXIMUM ZOOM TEST - OPTICAL, 10X ZOOM

zoom test 1.jpg
zoom test 2.jpg
zoom test 3.jpg

Ok, now the zoom test. So you probably can see it but around 30 miles in this direction the London Shard...you know that really tall pointy building in central London. Anyway, let's optical zoom.

Can you see it yet? Now let's 10x digital zoom. So now you can see it. In terms of detail, it's too close to call. One thing is for sure the saturation is on the side of the S10 but there does seem to be some noise in the foreground details.

EXTREME HDR TEST

Galaxy S10 Vs Oneplus 7 Pro Camera Comparison hdr

Ok, now an extra high dynamic range shot. The sun was literally right behind that cloud at the top. So again another close one to call. The black levels and highlights are certainly higher on the OP7...the S10 is doing a good job of not losing details in the shadows...but that's what is causing that mistiness on the left side of the photo.

Which one do you like?

Ok, let's here's a couple of selfies of my ugly mug & I'm not going to leave these up to you to decide. Use the polls up in the corner to vote & then vote for your overall winner.
